Its time to take action

Thanks to all that have completed our survey on FIFA so far. If you have not yet taken the survey – you can do so here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/whatdoyouthinkofFIFA – Currently we’ve had over 2000 responses to the survey, and a majority 96.5% of you say that you have lost confidence in the governance & administration of FIFA.

Today the English FA has called on FIFA to postpone this week’s presidential election in the wake of the scandal that led to Sepp Blatter partaking in a one horse race. The English FA is calling for delay to the election so that a new “reforming candidate” can be found. The FA have also called for an independent body to be appointed to supervise reforms to FIFA, as a result of a week that FIFA would like to forget.

Until now, the FA has stood alone in their calls for real reform of FIFA, and we are now calling Football Fans to contact your governing Football Federation and address your opinions on this topic.

You can do so in Australia by emailing the Football Federation of Australia at: feedback@footballaustralia.com.au

In addition, you can also contact relevant MPs to ask governments to take action on this matter.  See here for details in Australia.

Both David Mellor (former British Sports Minister) and investigative reporter, Andrew Jennings, said on ABC Radio on Monday morning that now is the time for governments and Sports Ministers to take action.

But politicians of all persuasions need to know what we think.

Let some key pollies around Australia know that you would support any steps they take to support other politicians who have already said something on these matters, such as British PM, David Cameron; British Sports Minister, Hugh Robertson; and British backbenchers, Damian Collins and Louise Bagshawe.

We also want to give them some evidence about what people think, so we invite you to participate in this short survey here.  Click here to take survey or https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/whatdoyouthinkofFIFA. It will only take about 5 minutes of your time.

FSFA urges public response to media attack on A-League and it’s fans.

Today the FSFA’s Matt Morris wrote an open letter to A-League chief Lyall Gorman in response to the Herald Sun article that carried on the front page of the print publication.

Dear Mr Gorman,

It’s now been over 12 hours since the Herald Sun and the Victorian Police launched another scathing attack on A-League fans. We are yet to see a response from you or anyone else at the FFA. The story is quickly spiralling out of control and is currently running on national wires, not just in Melbourne.

On behalf of fans, both active and non-active, of football in Australia I implore you to respond quickly and publicly. As you heard first hand at the Melbourne Fan Forum on Wednesday, it is a popular opinion that neither VicPol or Hatamoto have either experience or understanding of football fan culture and it’s never been more important to highlight and rectify this extremely counter-productive deficiency in crowd control & safety.

The football family in Melbourne is strong and forgiving. I firmly believe that coming out in public defence of fans and the special experience and atmosphere that football provides will go a long way towards a better relationship between the fans and the FFA.

Time is of the essence, Mr Gorman. As football fans we all eagerly await your response.

Sincerely,
Matt Morris

Fan Forum pamphlet

Last night we attended the Melbourne Ultimate Fan Forum hosted by Footy Fans Down Under. With successful forums in Sydney and Melbourne under their belts, it appears that Brisbane & Perth will be next. Long may fan forums continue because they are a great initiative for open & free dialogue between fans, media personalities and Club/League/Federation/Association representatives.

As part of the night we distributed pamphlets to attendees providing a short explanation of what the FSFA is and where to refer to for more information.

If you missed the night or missed the pamphlet, this is what it said. To help continue the discussion in shaping the future of the game in Australia, join us on our forums or on twitter with @fsfaus

Dear Football Supporter,

The Fan Forum is a great chance for we, as supporters, to pose our questions to those that have the power to make executive decisions regarding our game – however it shouldn’t stop there.

The Football Supporters Federation Australia is the national supporters organisation for all football fans and members of local supporter organisations from every club in the professional structure as well as grass roots football.

FSFA aims to become to voice of the fan. As a supporter advocacy organisation we believe in working with, not against, the FFA to ensure that supporters views are heard, acknowledged and most of all considered when making executive decisions. We believe above all else that what is good for the fan is both directly
and indirectly good for the game at all levels.

To realise our goals, we need your help. Organisations like the FSFA rely on participation, and we want to hear YOUR football story and your ideals for the future of the game. Joining the FSFA is your opportunity to make a difference. FSFA plans on regular meetings with the football authorities discussing a wide range of issues brought up as a result of concerns raised by supporters.

For further information, visit our website at http://www.fsfaus.org and join the discussion.

Enjoy the discussion tonight,
Football Supporters Federation Australia

FSFA Core Goals & Structure

Posted in News | Tagged , , | Leave a comment

The time is now

The FFA missed a wonderful opportunity this week to stand up and send a clear message to all Australian football fans for the good of the future of the game. Instead, the Status Quo will remain with CEO Ben Buckley offered a new contract which it appears likely will be accepted.

It’s time for we, the fans, to stand up and demand our voices be an integral part of moving the code forwards – not backwards. This includes pushing long term for a seat at the FFA table. We believe in a successful A-League and State Leagues, we believe in the FFA being accountable for their decisions, we believe in a unified Football Family at all levels of the game and we believe in the interests of the fans being at the forefront of any decision making.

Initially when the concept for FSFA was created, we aimed too large and got bogged under the details until we all gave up. We will be starting again, this time smaller and more manageable with a future vision. The aim is for the initial compact structure to gain traction, and as that momentum grows so will the association.

For the first stage of its life, the FSFA will act as an advocacy group for the fans of all levels of the game. The Association will assert its influence through the media and offer real, proactive solutions to issues either real or perceived.

fsfaus.org will become an information hub, with The Association board building a central database of information for football fans. This will include Stadium/Ground, Ticketing, City, Local policing and security information to help both travelling and home fans as informed as possible.

The long term strategy is to have a fully democratic association with yearly AGM’s giving all financial members voting and nomination rights. At this stage, all memberships are free of charge although there will be a monetised structure in the future.

To ensure the first period of viability, Forbze and myself will be appointing the inaugural FSFA board.

The FSFA will be structured in a way that is similar to our counterparts from the UK (A board providing National strategy & direction and National Council comprised of representatives from around the country).

If you wish to get involved, please let us know via email and nominate yourself for either the Board or National Council. Be sure to include which area you are from so that we can have a broad coverage of the nation, as well as a short message for us to gauge your idea of a football vision for this country.

You can also join us on the forums, or follow us on twitter to continue the discussion.

The time is now. Let’s get this ball rolling.
